There was a clunk as the stapler hit the ground, followed by a loud hiss and a skittering noise as the just hatched yesterday whatever-it-was disappeared inside the photocopier.
The office staff gradually climbed down off the various bits of furniture they were perched on and cautiously went back to work. All their desks might just now be arranged in a circle, facing but as far away as they could get from the copy machine.
